I wanted to take a moment to address the outrage and emotions we are all dealing with over the recent killing of another Black person at the hands of the police. I find myself deeply saddened, yet conflicted, as the father of a 10 year old African American boy who I want to protect and my own father who spent 32 years as a police officer in Oakland. I have not lost faith in the fact that there are good cops, however, I am deeply saddened by the conduct of police and the state where innocent black people are constantly targeted and often killed by the hands of the police.

This level of injustice really bothers me but stems from a deeper problem of how racism, bigotry and discrimination is systemic—woven layers deep within the fabric of our laws, policies, education, jobs, and culture.

This is why Inneract Project is so important to me. We want to empower OUR kids—to equip them with the skills necessary to design the products they want to see in this world. We want them to realize that the pathways to empowerment (personal, professional and financial independence) starts by owning their talent and using it to create a future that belongs to them—hopefully impacting the communities they live in. We want our students to have equal educational opportunities, to dream bigger and realize that they have the knowledge and skills to not just work at a large company, but create one.

On behalf of Inneract Project and myself, we hope you stay safe and well.
