Volunteer Spotlight: Marcela Carrillo

We recently had the chance to reflect on what 15 years looks like with one of our long term volunteers, Marcela Carrillo. Read her interview below to hear about her experience with IP and what empowering black & brown youth means for the future of design.

What do you do (role and/or company)?

I am a Digital Art Director at Iron Creative

What brought you to IP?

I love IP’s mission and was looking for a place to volunteer. Being a minority myself I thought it was a perfect match!

How have you been involved with IP and for how long?

I’ve been involved with IP for a little over 3 years now, I started as a teaching assistant then moved on to supporting several of the education committees. 

IP’s 15th year theme is “Empowering the next generation of Black and Brown designers”; what does this theme mean to you?

To me, it means giving everyone representation in creative and technology fields. Much more than that, it’s building a foundation of the tools and skills needed to succeed in any career they choose. 

If you could give one piece of advice to your 15 year old self, what would it be?

Everything works out, it always does!
